I do commissioned work for various commercial and autonomous parties. I approach every project through a psychological lens, in search of harmony in its aesthetic essence. I am available as a director, editor, or DoP, and have extensive experience with gimbals.

Festival Downtown

Direction, camera, edit for Festival Downtown, a music festival across multiple locations in downtown Rotterdam. In this project I aimed to capture the rawness and diversity of the festival. I was requested to incorporate every music stage, which explains the length of the video.

A Patron’s Visit: the making of  KIRAC 27

KIRAC Episode 28: Faun

Sandra has fled cold Toronto. She thought she could be a loving wife, but when the lockdowns forced her to spend one hundred percent of her time with her husband, she found it so awful that the only option was to run away. Her first destination is Amsterdam. The Dutch are impressed by her worldly charms, so they start filming her. In the eye of my camera, her newfound freedom appears less harsh. Also, Melchior wants to join the KIRAC collective, and our patron Philip seems to like him – a lot.

I was involved in filming and editing one of the core scenes of the film.

Traumburg ‘24

Traumburg is an arts and music festival held in a charming Baroque-era castle in Dornburg, Germany. The festival thrives on a collaborative ethos, with many attendees being volunteers or artists themselves.

Elastiek (Sebastiaan Verbeeten, Rutger Nijkamp) have been a consistent contributor to the festival, involved in both documentation and dj performances. We have produced aftermovies and teasers for the last two events and will create a longer-format documentary for the 5th edition of Traumburg in 2024. This documentary will combine the visual style of these aftermovies with the intimate approach I used in films such as Happy Together and Defragmentation (see Film tab).

Traumburg ‘23

In this aftermovie I experimented with the aftermovie form, creating a dynamic, flowing video that highlights the atmosphere of the festival. This visual aesthetic has been dominant in my work since.

KIRAC Episode 24: Under a Sinking Sun

The film explores the hopes and illusions of young art students coming of age in a world that is saying goodbye to the enlightenment and its values; about the cheerful anticipation with which they face the possibilities of a setting sun. It also features several ‘cancelled’ youths — students who have been expelled from their schools, academies, or social circles due to accusations of sexual misconduct.
I did camerwork and subtitles. See their website for the full film.

KIRAC Episode 23: Honeypot

In this film, you will witness the unlikely endeavour of right-wing conservative Sid Lukassen who chivalrously tries to win the heart of lefty student Jini. When he enters her boudoir in Zandvoort, he gets caught up in a literary, enchanting and unpredictable world, in which Jini starts to undress him, surrounded by classical music and grapes. While Sid tries his best to connect to Jini, he realises that the woman has set him up for humiliation. How will Sid save himself from this situation? Will he, despite everything, find love?

I did camerawork, subtitles, performance.

KIRAC diary: tales of a KIRAC intern

During my internship at KIRAC I made a video showing what we would do at the studio. It incorporates the reflective style of a KIRAC film, but this time told from my perspective, and not that of Stefan and Kate. This film was the start of a deep and productive relationship with KIRAC.
